| Fuel Strategy As well as constant work on the further development of passenger-car and engine technology for sustaining individual mobility in the long term, Volkswagen is carrying out increasing research in the area of alternative fuels. The mid-term goal is to replace the use of fossil energy resources by using regenerative (i.e. renewable) sources. In order to achieve this goal, Volkswagen is therefore already field-testing two fuels - SunFuel® und SynFuel® - in cooperation with the mineral oil industry. With a long-term view, Volkswagen is working on hydrogen propulsion by means of fuel cells. Initial prototypes, such as the Touran HyMotion, have already demonstrated on several occasions that they are capable of achieving this goal. |
